Large anti-submarine ships of the “Reliable” type , also known as Project 61-ME BOD ( NATO code is “Kashin-II class” or “Rajput”) is a type of large anti-submarine ships , which is a modernization of Project 61 . BOD project 61-EM were built by order of India , but temporarily, during the period of construction and testing, were included in the USSR Navy . Background
In 1974, the Indian delegation visited the USSR , whose representatives chose the cheapest version of the ocean ship to escort their aircraft carrier. Most of all, delegates liked the ships of Project 61 , but the customer wanted to strengthen artillery, missile weapons and place the helicopter in the hangar.
As a result, a virtually new ship project was created, created in the Northern Design Bureau by the chief designer A. Shishkin. The Indian Navy first ordered three ships of this project, and later two more. All of them are still in service, and are officially classified as destroyers [3] .
Performance Specifications
Power plant
The main power plant of the BPK type "Reliable" consisted of two gas turbine units (GTU) of 27,500 l. from. [1] ( according to other sources: out of four gas turbines of 18,000 liters. From. [2] ).
Armament
The armament was practically no different from the parent project 61 . Except for the fact that during the modernization process, instead of the aft 76-mm gun mount and the Turel SU, a semi-flooded helicopter hangar was placed (there were no hangars on Project 61 and subsequent 61M and 61E upgrades, and the helicopter was located directly on the runway ). Also, instead of the stern launchers of the P-15 PKRK, 4 launchers were mounted in the bow of the ship for the export version of these missiles, the P-20.
It was also planned to replace the bow 76-mm gun mount with a 100-mm gun, but for several reasons these plans were not implemented.
Thus, the ships of the project 61-EM had the following weapons:
- Artillery systems
- One twin 76.2 mm gun mount (AU) AK-726 for 600 rounds;
- Four twin 30-mm AK-230 ACs per 1,000 rounds or four six-barrel 30-mm AK-630Ms per 3,000 rounds.
- Missile systems
- Four anti-ship systems (PKRK) P-20 (with 4 missiles per complex, export version of P-15 Termite );
- Two UZRK "Volna" (16 missiles each).
- Anti-submarine
- One five-pipe 533-mm torpedo tube (TA) PTA-53-61 (5 torpedoes each);
- Two twelve-barreled (213 mm caliber) rocket launchers of RBU-6000 (for RGB-60 projectile; 96 pcs.).
- Aviation
- One Ka-25 anti-submarine helicopter (in the hangar).
- Radar weapons
- Radar detection of surface and air targets "Cleaver" and "Angara";
- Turret and Lynx artillery fire control radars (or two Vympel radars instead);
- Hydroacoustic station (GAS) of the general detection "Platinum".
Series Composition
All ships of the project 61-EM were laid at the shipyard (Shipyard) No. 445 Shipyard named after 61 Communards in the city of Nikolaev . Dates of the life cycle of ships are given in the reference [4] .
