Pazuzu ( lat. Pazuzu ) - in Assyrian and Babylonian mythology, the lord of the demons of the winds, the son of the god Hanbi . He was depicted with a human body, with the head of a lion or a dog, with lion paws and claws on its legs, with two pairs of wings, with a sting of a scorpion and a serpentine penis . Often depicted with his right hand raised and his left down, which symbolized life and death, creation and destruction. Pazuzu is a demon of the southwest wind that brought drought and famine in the dry seasons and floods - in the wet. Pazuzu's figure was often used to create amulets designed to combat the evil force of Lamashtu , which could harm the baby and mother during childbirth. Pazuzu also acted as a protector of people from the plague and evil forces.
