The César Award for Best Actor ( French: César du meilleur acteur ) has been awarded annually since 1976 to an actor who has performed the best leading actor in a French film . The prize is awarded based on the voting results of the members of the French National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Technology ( Fr. L'Académie des arts et techniques du cinéma ), created in 1974 by Georges Kravenny .
The award ceremony takes place annually in February (previously, awards also took place in January, March and April) at the Chatelet Theater in Paris (since 2002 ). Prizes are awarded for films of the previous year.
At the moment, 43 awarding ceremonies have taken place.
The only actor to win this nomination three times is Michel Cerro ( 1979 , 1982 , 1996 ). Five times won 2 times: Philippe Noiret ( 1976 and 1990 ), Gerard Depardieu ( 1981 and 1991 ), Daniel Otoy (1987 and 2000), Michelle Bouquet (2002 and 2006) and Mathieu Amalric (2005 and 2008).
By the number of nominations (including victories), Gerard Depardieu is the leader - 17. In addition to him, eight more actors were nominated at least five times:
