Exa History
In 1930, Karl Nüchterlein developed a VP Exakta camera for Ihagee for film type 127 (frame size 4 × 6.5 cm). He later developed a version for the popular film type 135. The new camera is called Kine Exakta. Kine - from the word movie - type 135 film was used in movie cameras. Production of the Kine Exakta began in 1936 . In 1938, Exakta began production with a frame size of 6 × 6 cm.
In 1951, Exa began production - a simplified, cheaper and lighter version of Exakta . Exa production continued until 1987 .
Early Exa models differed from Exakta in a shorter shutter speed range. They had interchangeable viewfinders and interchangeable lenses . In later Exa models, the viewfinder was fixed.
Exa Cameras
- Exa (original) - Produced from 1951 to 1960 . They were created according to the concept of a “second camera” - as a backup device with truncated characteristics, which could be charged with a film of higher sensitivity. The mirror serves as a shutter, so the shutter speed range is limited - from 1/25 s to 1/150 s. Viewfinders and lenses are the same as those of Exakta.
- Exa Rheinmetall - Produced in 1956 by Sömmerda due to a lack of production capacity at Ihagee. The front of the camera is labeled System Exa and Rheinmetall Sömmerda.
- Exa I - Produced since 1959 . 38300 pcs produced. It differed from Exakta in that the Exa inscription on the camera body was stamped, not engraved.
- Exa Ia - Produced since 1964 . Viewfinder shaft type. The image in the viewfinder is mirrored. The viewfinder could be replaced with a pentaprism. Leaping aperture of the lens. Shutter speeds: 1/30, 1/60, 1/125 and 1/175 s. Focal Shutter . Bayonet mount lens .
- Exa VX100
- Exa Ib - Threaded connection M42 × 1 . Native Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm f / 2.8 lens. Shutter in the form of two rotating cylinders. One of them was mounted on a mirror.
- Exa Ic - Produced from 1985 to 1987 in the Exa IIb enclosure. The letter "c" means that the camera was manufactured by Certo (Dresden).
- Exa II - Produced since 1960 . The first version with irremovable pentaprism. The mirror for sighting is lowered only when the shutter is cocked (“sticky mirror”). Focal shutter with vertical movement of cloth curtains and a set of speeds (B, 2, 4, 8, 15, 30, 60, 125, 250).
- Exa IIa - Produced since 1963. The same Exa II, but with cosmetic changes. Ergonomics is improved, the process of charging the film is simplified.
- Exa IIb - Produced since 1964. The same Exa IIa, but with a mirror of constant sight.
- Exa 500 (Exakta 500, VX 200) - Produced since 1966 . Bayonet mount lens. Focal shutter with vertical movement of cloth curtains and a set of speeds (B, 2, 4, 8, 15, 30, 60, 125, 250, 500). Improved viewfinder with microprisms, Fresnel lens and microraster. Detachable back cover.
