Toolkit

Popfly consisted of four tools based on Silverlight technology, described below.

Game Creator (Game Maker)

Game Creator was a tool that allowed you to create your own games or an extension of existing (embedded) games. They could be exported to Facebook or used as a Windows Live Gadget.

Mashup Creator (Mashup Creator)

Mashup Creator was a tool that allowed users to build mash-ups from built-in blanks, thanks to which it was possible to combine various web services and virtualization tools. For example, a user could combine photos and map fragments together to get a geographic map from photos. Additional features of the blocks allowed users to modify the code of blocks in JavaScript , and at the same time gave the user flexibility in developing programs. In addition, additional HTML code could be added to the mashup. To facilitate this process, a technology similar to IntelliSense was available, but with auto - completion of HTML code.

Mashup Creator also supported the preview function, and when the user changed blocks, the result also changed in real time. Various manuals were also available, and when the user attempted to combine blocks with incompatible data, he (the user) received warning messages about this.

Web Creator (Web Page Creator)

Web Creator was a tool for creating web pages. The user interface was similar to the user interface ribbon for Office 2007 . Web pages were created without HTML coding, and customization was done by choosing predefined schemes, styles, and color palettes. Users could embed their available mashup into web pages. Finished web pages could be saved in each Popfly user’s personal space.

Popfly Space (Popfly Space)

Completed mashaps and web pages were stored in Popfly Space (each user was given 100 MB each), where users also had the opportunity to customize the profile and other features of social networks. Public projects could be laid out for everyone to see, evaluate them, and even “share” them with other users. Popfly allowed users to download mashaps as gadgets for Windows sidebar or embed them in Windows Live Spaces , with some support for other blog resources.

Another feature of Popfly Space was the Popfly Explorer plugin for Visual Studio Express . Users could use Visual Studio Express (Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions or higher required) to download mashups and modify their code, as well as perform other actions, such as uploading to a site, sharing, dividing and rating mashups.

Closing

On July 16, 2009, the Popfly team announced that Popfly services would be shut down by August 24, 2009. All sites, links and resources will also be closed. [2] An unsuccessful attempt was made by one of the old members of Popfly to create an alternative website based on it, but at the present time it is also not functioning. [3]
