Creation History

The OKB-15 was created in a short time together with OKB-16 on the basis of the wing and turret versions of the ShVAK-20 air cannon [3] [4] . First, in the OKB-15 on the instructions of the NCU about installing ShVAK in the turret of the T-40 tank in July 1941. On August 4, 20-mm and 23-mm guns were shot in the OKB-16, according to the positive results of which, albeit with massive failures, tank 20 -mm gun transferred to the development in the OKB-15 where it is brought to the final form [4] .

In September 1941, the T-60 tank, 9 days after being put into service, was equipped with a prototype TNSh-20, which at that time had the ShVAK-Tank index [4] .

In parallel with the development of the production of guns, its refinement was carried out, including taking into account the results of front-line use, in connection with which it was officially adopted on December 1, and on January 1, 1942 received the designation TNSh-1, later they became known as TNSh-20, mass production was transferred at Plant No. 2 [3] [5] [6] .
