History
Hohenbaden Castle was built on Buttert Rocks at an altitude of 410 meters above sea level on the orders of Margrave Herman II . The castle is one of the earliest examples of medieval buildings with a sewer system. From the 11th to the 15th century, Hohenbaden was the residence of the Margraves of Baden from the Tseringen dynasty. After the construction of the new castle , the residence was moved to it, and the old Hohenbaden castle was ravaged by fire in 1599 .
In 1999, with the participation of renowned musician Rüdiger Opperman, an aeolian harp was installed in the knight's hall of the castle, sounding due to wind vibrations caused by the wind. Currently, the ruins of the castle are one of the main tourist attractions of the city.
