Arthroplasty (from the Greek. Árthron - joint and plastike - sculpting, plastic ) - methods of surgical treatment of joint pathology, the purpose of which is to restore function.
In arthroplasty, the separation of the articular ends, the modeling of new articular surfaces and the space between them are gaskets from the patient's tissues ( skin , fascia ). Cartilaginous caps and caps from the membranes of the fetus (amnion) are also used.
To prevent adhesions of the articular surfaces of the bones, a large gap is left between them (gap arthroplasty) or a plate made of artificial material (interposition arthroplasty ) is inserted; in addition, one or both of the bony ends can be replaced with a metal or plastic prosthesis (arthroplasty, ie, joint replacement).
