Controlled aircraft bombs (UAB) or Adjustable aircraft bombs (KAB) , in the English literature they are called smart bombs ( English smart bomb ), one of the types of guided aircraft weapons (UAP). They are aerial bombs equipped with a control and guidance system. In addition to the control system, some UAB models are also equipped with small rocket engines, which increases range and improves flight control.
Types of UAB
- with radio command guidance;
- with television guidance;
- with infrared homing - CVO of the order of several. tens of meters;
- with laser guidance - KVO less than ten meters;
- with GPS-receiver of improved accuracy ( JDAM ) - CVO of the order of ten meters.
- with a GLONASS receiver of improved accuracy (KAB-500S) - a CVO of about ten meters.
Comparison of UAB with guided missiles
An important characteristic of aviation ammunition is the filling factor - the ratio of the mass of the explosive to the total mass of the bomb. For aviation guided missiles, it is 0.2 - 0.5 (this low ratio is due to the need to place the engine, fuel tanks, correction and guidance systems in the missile body), for unguided aerial bombs it is close to 1, for UAB this coefficient is 0 7 - 0.9. Moreover, the region of possible bomb drops from high altitudes is only slightly inferior to the zone of the far boundary of the missile launch. With almost the same starting mass and launch (discharge) range, the UAB can carry significantly more explosive than an aircraft missile.
