“ Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) ” is a song by British pop duo Eurythmics , written by Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart . It was released as a single in 1983, became the title track for their self-titled album and the band's most successful hit - 2nd place in the UK singles charts and first in the American Billboard Hot 100 . The song also made it to 365th place in the 500 greatest songs of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine .

To a large extent, the clip contributed to the success of the song, due to its unusualness and penetration, it received active rotation on the just launched MTV channel. The audience was exalted by the androgynous image of Annie Lennox with short orange hair, which was then also used in subsequent clips of the band Love Is a Stranger and Who's That Girl?

Most of the song’s instrumental includes a repeating riff of an analog synthesizer that Stuart accidentally discovered while playing a bass part backwards. In addition to the synthesizer, the arrangement also includes a Movement Systems drum machine , transient pianos and several Lennox voices laid out on the tracks.
