The Amedia company was founded in 2002 by Alexander Akopov after his resignation from the post of general director of the Rossiya television channel .

In 2002, Amedia was the first in Russia to enter into a joint production agreement with Sony Pictures. The first project of this tandem was the 127-episode telenovela “ Poor Nastya ”, which was released in 2003 on the STS channel ^[4] . The series has been sold in 25 countries, including Latin America ^[5] .

In 2004, Amedia launched the first Russian sitcom My Fair Nanny on the STS channel.

In 2005, the “My Fair Nanny” sitcom received the TEFI television award in two categories: “Producer” - Alexander Akopov, Alexander Rodnyansky , Konstantin Naumochkin and “Female Performer in a Television Film / TV Series” - Anastasia Zavorotnyuk . In the same year, the sitcom received two Golden Ostap figurines in the nomination “The Funniest TV Show of the Year”, and the leading actor Anastasia Zavorotnyuk became the winner of the prize, receiving the prize “For Best Actress for a Comedy”.

In September 2005, the STS channel began showing the 200-episode series Do Not Be Born Beautiful . This project has become one of the most successful Russian series. According to TNS Gallup Media, about 7 million viewers watched it daily. For the series, Alexander Akopov, Alexander Rodnyansky, Natalia Shneiderova, Ilya Papernov and Elena Markovskaya received the award of the TEFI National Television Competition in the nomination “Producer” ^[6] . In 2005, Amedia began working with Channel One . The historical melodrama “ Adjutants of Love ” was released, and in early 2006, the family saga “ Love as Love ”.

In 2005, the Amedia company began producing television programs - Saturday Night for STS and Evening with Tigran Keosayan for REN TV .

In 2006, the full version of all episodes of "My Fair Nanny" was released on DVD . Along with this, the company released the DVD "The best jokes of my fair nanny." Together with Sony Pictures, Amedia released an album of songs from the series Do Not Be Born Beautiful. Successful sales of the album two weeks later brought him the status of " Golden Disc ".

On March 12, 2007, the TV channel “ Tatyana’s Day ” was broadcast on Channel One, which for seven months was considered a rating television project.

Since January 15, 2008, the STS hosted the premiere of the historical telenovela “ One Night of Love ”. One Night of Love is the only Russian product nominated for an Emmy Award in 2008 .

In the same 2008, the company released the series "Montecristo" - a remake of the Argentine telenovela of the same name .

On December 10, 2009, a full-length 3D cartoon “ Our Masha and the Magic Nut ” was released. Based on the film, a computer game and soundtrack were created. At that time, Amedia planned to continue the production of domestic 3D cartoons and create at least one full-length cartoon a year.

In 2009, Amedia continued to develop new formats. In November 2009, the series “ Sleeping Area ” appeared on Channel One. The original format developed by Amedia has become a fundamentally new genre on Russian television . This is a daily television drama where the characters live in real time and experience the same events with the viewers.

Also in 2009, Amedia filmed a series of documentary dramas for Channel One. The projects “The Marshal’s Conspiracy”, “The Promised Land from Joseph Stalin”, “And Shepilov Who Joined Them,” “One Step from the Third World War” and “Aware Source in Moscow” talk about political events, phenomena and persons of the 20th century . Documentary drama is an artistic recreation of historical events.

In April 2011, the premiere of the mystical thriller " Closed School " - an adaptation of the Spanish television series " Black Lagoon (El Internado) ." The series was shot by order of STS. In total, 4 seasons and 134 thriller series were shown on STS.

In 2011, Amedia launched the round-the-clock television channel Amedia 1.

In 2012, the closed school thriller received the TEFI National Television Award. The producers of the project Alexander Akopov, Vyacheslav Murugov , Natalia Shneiderova , Tatyana Belichenko became the best in the nomination "Producer of the film / series" ^[7] .

In April 2013, STS hosted the premiere of the youth mystical thriller Angel or Demon , which is an adaptation of the popular Spanish series Ángel o demonio (produced by Plural Entertainment) ^[8] .

In 2013, the Amediateka project was launched together with SPB TV , a service aggregating the content of Amedia television company, including the popular TV series Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad ^[9]

April 10, 2014 in the evening, a fire occurred in one of the shooting pavilions with decorations. The fire area was 50 square meters. The fire was evacuated and eliminated, there were no injuries.

On November 7, 2016, Amedia rebranded Amedia 1 and Amedia 2, after which they became known as A1 and A2.

On July 25, 2017, Amedia TV entered into a deal with HBO , receiving the official status of “Home of HBO”. The agreement gave the company exclusive rights to almost all the content of the American television network in Russia ^[10] .

On October 13, 2017, the Russian digital satellite television operator Tricolor TV stopped broadcasting the Amedia HIT, A1 and A2 TV channels. According to the representative of Tricolor TV Ulyana Rasskazova, “this is due to the fact that the content of the TV channels is formed in such a way that it represents a kind of promo for Amediateka service. Therefore, it was decided to terminate our cooperation in this format ” ^[11] . After that, Amedia TV invited viewers to contact the Tricolor TV support service and demand that the channels be returned.

The general director of Amedia is Marina Sidorova ^[1] .

In 2005, Leonid Blavatnik , co-owner of TNK-BP and Rusal , became the majority partner of Amedia.

In June 2015, Alexander Akopov transferred to Blavatnik his share in all Amedia companies ^[12] , remaining only a shareholder of A Serial, which owns the non-air channels of the company and Amediateka ^[13] . As of June 24, 2015, Blavatnik controlled a 66% stake in Amedia.

Since February 2016, the general producer of the company has been Nelly Yaralova ^[14] , who previously held the position of a line producer in one of the early Amedia projects - the series Do Not Be Born Beautiful .

Revenues of Amedia in 2008 amounted to $ 80 million, in 2013 - about $ 60 million ^[12] .

As of 2016, the Amediateka online cinema totaled 4.5 million registered users and 250 thousand paying subscribers ^[15] , the company's net revenue amounted to 400 million rubles.

Amedia film studio was founded in 2004 on the territory of a former ball-bearing factory. Gradually, modern filming pavilions were erected on the site of the factory floors. Simultaneously with the shooting, large-scale construction work was going on. The first project "Amedia", shot in the new studio, was the historical melodrama "Sins of the Fathers." Immediately after the shooting, the pavilion was built up with new decorations for the first Russian sitcom My Fair Nanny .

By 2005, the construction of six more pavilions was completed, and a year later two more were ready. The area of ​​the pavilions at that time was more than 5.8 thousand m². The pavilions were barely enough for Amedia's own production. The construction of additional facilities attracted third-party television content producers.

At the beginning of 2006, Ostankino Television Company filmed the broadcast Health in the film studio. Channel One is preparing on-air screensavers.

In 2007, the popular Minute of Fame show was filmed in a film studio.

By 2010, the construction of five more pavilions with a ceiling height of 12 m was completed. There was an opportunity to build up multi-storey scenery and use telescopic cranes for shooting from the upper points, which is necessary for the production of feature films .

Every year, the film studio updates its technical base. So, in July 2012, 2 digital cameras Sony F65 appeared in the Amedia film studio, creating images with a resolution of 2K, 4K and 8K ^[16] .

As of April 2013, about 500 projects were shot at the Amedia film studio. Among them are all the Amedia projects, as well as the STS Lighting Superstar TV show, the Galileo television program, the South Butovo show, One Hundred Questions for an Adult , Big Difference , Top Gear , Top Model in Russian ”,“ Health Academy with Elena Malysheva ”, Leonid Parfyonov 's original film“ Zvorykin-Muromets ”and others. The main clients of the film studio are PC“ Sreda ”,“ PC Lean-M ”,“ Good Story Media ”,“ World of Reality ” Production ”,“ Story First Production ”,“ Friendley Media Group ”, etc.

In July 2011, Amedia launched its own round-the-clock Amedia television channel. The broadcast network of the channel consists of series and programs of its own production. The channel is available in packages of cable and digital television operators - Rostelecom , MTS , Beeline ^[17] , MegaFon , Akado, Inetcom ^[18] (including Samsung and LG smart TV technology ), as well as through the satellite television operator Orion Express . As of April 2013, the channel’s subscriber base in Russia has 1.5 million subscribers.

Since December 2012, Amedia began commercial broadcasting in the United States . ^[19] The channel is distributed through the company DISH Network , which is the largest satellite television operator with more than 18 million subscribers.

For 2013, Amedia planned to expand the package of broadcast channels. ^{[20] [21]}

On May 21, 2013, Bloomberg announced that the American cable channel HBO had a deal with Amedia. ^[22] At the end of May 2013, Amedia issued an official press release in which it announced that it had received exclusive rights to broadcast the content of the American premium HBO television channel in Russia ^[23] . NVO content will be available only in paid or basic cable and satellite Russian networks, as well as on a specialized closed Internet platform. Series and films of HBO can be seen on two channels preparing for launch - Amedia 1 and Amedia Premium . On May 24, 2013, the Vedomosti newspaper published material in which the head of Amedia disclosed the details of the transaction, and also announced that the TV channels would be broadcast on May 31, 2013 . ^[24]

In 2010, the head of Amedia A. Akopov announced the start of the fight against piracy on the Internet. One of the main pirate sites was called the site " VKontakte ". Alexander Akopov announced his readiness to file a lawsuit against users and the management of the VKontakte social network, which provides the opportunity to watch pirated copies of films and music albums for free.

These are 30 million criminals, these accomplices are known, but 30 million cannot be imprisoned, but 10 thousand are possible ^[25] .

VKontakte users reacted extremely negatively to Akopov’s statements: they created a group of Pirates Party on the website (as of July 10, 2010 totaled 8 thousand people), which discussed the possibility of filing a class action lawsuit against the president of Amedia. In addition, an open letter to the authorities from VKontakte users (more than 72 thousand signatories) appeared on the pages of the VKursa newspaper with a request to amend the "outdated" laws.

As a result, in an open letter, the president of “Amedia” tried to apologize to the users of the site: “I would like to apologize to those users of the VKontakte network who, probably, were rightly offended after hearing from media reports that some uncle called you a criminal "And explained the position of Amedia company on this issue: when registering on most sites, the user expresses his consent to the so-called" terms of use ", which, as a rule, includes a clause according to which the user takes the whole property in case of violation of the law. ^[26]

On June 14, 2014, Amedia blocked the site of the Lostfilm project and several torrent sites for the distribution of series, including those created by HBO. ^[27]

On April 7, 2018, it became known that Amedia was preparing a plan to formally institute criminal proceedings against the creative company Cube in Cuba, which creates popular alternative sound tracks for TV shows and films, the distribution rights of which were acquired by Amedia.
