US Senator from Louisiana in 1936-1937; The first female senator from this state.
In 1913 she married Huey Long . After the death of her husband in 1935, she took his place in the US Senate as appointed by the Governor of Louisiana.
She sat in the Senate on January 31, 1936, and on April 21 of the same year she won early elections.
Son Russell (1918-2003) was also a senator from Louisiana.
