All modern representatives of the genus are descended from Lieutenant-General Yury Yuryevich Trubetskoy (1668–1739).
Origin
Trubetskoy are descended from the grandson of Gedimin , Dmitry Olgerdovich , prince of Bryansk, Starodub and Trubchevsky, participant of the Kulikovo battle , who died in the Battle of Vorskla ( 1399 ) with his son Ivan. After his death the principality was ruled by his son Mikhail Dmitrievich .
The specific princes are the descendants of Mikhail Dmitrievich.
After the death of Mikhail Dmitrievich, the principality was divided between his sons:
- Semyon Mikhailovich and
- Yuri Mikhailovich
Yuri Mikhailovich in 1445 fled to Moscow, and his half of the principality was given to Ivan Vasilyevich Chartoryysky . His son, Ivan Yurievich Trubetskoy, in 1499 won the trial against Chartaryi and regained his father’s half of the principality. In 1500, he again fled to Moscow, but with the occupation of Seversk land by Moscow troops in 1503, he re-established himself in his lot and rules until his death in 1520 . After him, his nephew Simeon-Bogdan Alexandrovich ruled the lot, until his death in 1543 , this branch was cut short after the death of Mikhail Semyonovich in 1565.
As for Semyon Mikhailovich, he had a son, Ivan Semyonovich (died before 1499 ), and the latter had sons, who also went over to Moscow and retained their reigns:
- Andrey Ivanovich (died 1546 )
- Ivan Ivanovich (died 1538 )
- Fedor Ivanovich (reigned before 1540 , mind. 1541 )
- Semyon Ivanovich - the boyar, governor of Kostroma, the last specific prince Trubchevsky, reigned from 1520 until his death in 1566 .
The descendants of Andrei Ivanovich
Prince Andrew had three sons:
- Mikhail Andreevich (d. 1557 );
- Vasily Andreevich (died 1561 , was governor of Bryansk );
- Nikita Andreevich (died after 1558 , was governor of Belyov ).
The offspring of Andrei Ivanovich was cut short by his grandchildren: the boyars Fyodor Mikhailovich (d. 1602 ), the famous oprichnik and voivode , and Andrei Vasilyevich , a member of the Seven Boyars (d. 1612 ). After their death, the grandchildren of Semyon Ivanovich remained the successors of the family.
Descendants of Semyon Ivanovich
Semyon Ivanovich , the last ruler of Trubchevsk , had four sons:
- Roman Semenovich ;
- Vasily Semenovich ;
- Alexander Semenovich ;
- Mikhail Semenovich ;
The Trubetskoy family was continued by the sons of Roman Semenovich - boyars:
- Nikita Romanovich Kosoy (d. 1608 ), oprichnik and voivode , and
- Timofey Romanovich (died 1602 ).
Timofey Romanovich was the father of Alexander-Merkury Timofeevich Trubetskoy (died 08.22.1610) and the famous figure of the Time of Troubles Dmitry Timofeevich Trubetskoy , the leader of the First Militia , a candidate for the royal throne in 1613 , then the governor of Siberia . He died childless ( 1625 ), like his brother Mercury Timofeevich , so that only the descendants of Nikita Romanovich Kosoy remained representatives of the Trubetskoy.
The descendants of Nikita Romanovich Kosovo
Nikita Romanovich Kosoy, the grandson of Semyon Ivanovich, had three sons:
- Yuri Nikitich (d. 1634 ),
- Fedor Nikitich (d. 1608 ),
- Alexey Nikitich (died 1680 ).
Alexey Nikitich, boyar since 1645 ; in 1647, he participated in negotiations with the Polish and Swedish embassies, in 1654 - with the embassy of B. M. Khmelnitsky . In 1660 , Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich granted him, already old and childless, the newly conquered patrimony of his ancestors, the city of Trubchevsk with the county, and ordered him to be called "Truzhchevsky derzhavtsy". As for Yuri Nikitich, in the Time of Troubles, he belonged to the pro-Polish party, being the son-in-law of the leader of the party, the boyar Mikhail Glebovich Saltykov ; in 1611 he fled with the father-in-law to Poland. There he converted to the Catholic faith under the name of Yuri-Vigunda Jerome. From Saltykova he had two sons:
- Peter Y. , chamberlain of the Polish court and Marshal Starodubsky (died 1644 ), and
- Alexander Y.
Alexander died childless, but Peter had a son, Yuri Petrovich (died 1679 ), who remained, due to the childlessness of the boyar Alexei Nikitich, the only heir to the family name. Meanwhile, in 1654 the Moscow troops returned the Seversk lands, depriving the Polish Trubetskoy of the newly acquired patrimonial possessions. Under such conditions, boyar Alexei Nikitich brought Yuri's great-nephew to Russia ( 1657 ), where he converted to Orthodoxy.
The descendants of Yuri Petrovich
In Russia, Yuri Petrovich was promoted to the boyars and married the prince V. Golitsyn’s sister. The sons of this marriage were born:

He died, leaving no legitimate male offspring, but only a bastard son, caught in a Swedish captivity:

Emblem Description
In the General Armorial of the noble families of the All-Russian Empire, the coat of arms is described as follows:
The shield is divided into four equal parts, in which are depicted: in the first field in the gold field, two Griffins hold the Prince's Crown with their front paws, in the second part in the blue field there is a white single-headed Eagle with outspread wings; in the third part in the red field the Horseman on a white horse is prancing, having in his hand a Sword raised upwards; in the fourth part in a silver field a bovine head. The shield is covered with a mantle and hat belonging to the Princely dignity [3] .
Probably, the coat of arms of the Princes of Trubetskoy contains a variation of the coat of arms of Inflant (two griffins), a modified coat of arms of Poland (white eagle), the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (rider), the coat of arms of the Moldavian principality (bison head).
