SSE3 ( PNI - Prescott New Instruction) is Intel’s third SIMD extension, a descendant of SSE , SSE2 and MMX . First introduced on February 2, 2004 in the Prescott core of the Pentium 4 processor . In 2005, AMD introduced its SSE3 implementation for Athlon 64 processors (Venice, San Diego, and Newark cores).
SSE3 contains 13 instructions: FISTTP (x87), MOVSLDUP (SSE), MOVSHDUP (SSE), MOVDDUP (SSE2), LDDQU (SSE / SSE2), ADDSUBPD (SSE), ADDSUBPD (SSE2), HADDPS (SSE), HSUBPS ( SSE), HADDPD (SSE2), HSUBPD (SSE2), MONITOR (no analogue in SSE3 for AMD ), MWAIT (no analogue in SSE3 for AMD).
The most noticeable change is the ability to work horizontally with registers. More specifically, commands have been added for adding and subtracting multiple values stored in the same register. These commands simplified a number of DSP and 3D operations. There is also a new command for converting floating point values to integers without the need to make changes to the global rounding mode.

SSE3 Instructions
- ADDSUBPD (Add Subtract Packed Double).
- ADDSUBPS (Add Subtract Packed Single).
- HADDPD (Horizontal Add Packed Double).
- HADDPS (Horizontal Add Packed Single).
- HSUBPD (Horizontal Subtract Packed Double).
- HSUBPS (Horizontal Subtract Packed Single).
- FISTTP - conversion of a real number to an integer with the preservation of an integer value and rounding to the side of zero.
- LDDQU - loading 128bit of unaligned data from memory into the xmm register, with the prevention of crossing the cache line boundary.
