Biography

The childhood and youth of Herman Ketelhön passed in the city of Marburg . Already at that time he became interested in art. From 1903 to 1905, Ketelhyun taught at the Karlsruhe Academy of Art, was the best student in the modeling class. The first recognition came to him as the creator of a new style of Marburg vase . From 1906 to 1907, he studied at the Munich Academy with Peter Halm and mastered the technique of graphic images.

In 1908, the artist returned to Marburg and joined the colony of artists Willinghausen . During this period, he was friendly with such masters as Karl Banzer , Heinrich Doom , Paul Baum , Otto Ubbelode .

By 1919, G. Ketelhyun created numerous drawings, prints and woodcuts , depicting the people and nature of central Germany. The artist owns a large number of portraits of peasants, sketches of field work. In 1917, G. Ketelhyun got married and moved to Essen with his wife (also an artist). Here, the master creates his largest work - the graphic series "Work", depicting the work of a miner worker. His work on the topic “Leaders of Mining” is also known. Subsequently, the creative interests of G. Ketelhön turn to the image of nature, he is fascinated by the theme of water. The master creates pictures of sources in snow and ice, rivers and their estuaries, glaciers and the sea.

Exhibitions of works by G. Ketelhön (from 1913 to 2009) took place in museums in the cities of Kassel , Berlin , Dusseldorf , Essen , Marburg , Dortmund , Datteln , Munich , Salzgitter , Bochum , Eichwald .
