Tupikov, Nikolai Mikhailovich

After graduating from the historical and philological faculty of St. Petersburg University and defending his master's thesis for health reasons, he was appointed a teacher at the Yalta Gymnasium. At the same time, he was engaged in scientific research in the field of Russian anthroponymy.

Since 1897, he taught at the St. Petersburg Mariinsky Institute .

N. M. Tupikov was directly involved in creating the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary and S. A. Vengerov's “Critical-Biographical Dictionary”.

In 1899, he submitted to the Imperial Academy of Sciences a manuscript of his main work, the Dictionary of Old Russian Personal Names. For this work in the same year he was awarded the Small Lomonosov Prize . The work itself was published only in 1903 ^[1] .

He died in Yalta on December 29, 1900 ( January 11, 1901 ).
