History
This is the first Old Believer church of the Pomor community (2nd Moscow community of the Pomor marriage consent ), built after the manifesto of religious tolerance in 1905 in Moscow. It was built in 1907-1908 by the architect I. E. Bondarenko in the style of the northern churches, with a bell tower under a gable roof. For exterior decoration applied granite, facing brick, majolica. The majolica is especially beautiful on the pediment of the bell tower. The oak iconostasis and utensils of dark bronze of the original drawings are interesting. Many valuable ancient icons adorn the iconostasis and the church. Stained glass windows made the church cozy, full of Old Russian dreams. The capacity of the church is 500 people. The cost of 150 000 p. [one]
“The temple was consecrated in 1908 . It was built in the Old Pskov style and is one of the best and most beautiful temples of the capital. ” [2]
“On June 8, the consecration of the church in the name of the Resurrection of Christ and the Intercession of the Virgin took place in Moscow at the second Moscow community of Old Believers of the Pomor marriage consent in Tokmakov Lane, near Old Basmannaya. The temple was built in one year. It was built by a young architect Bondarenko . The cost of construction is about 150,000 rubles. This first Pomeranian church in Moscow was built like the oldest Pskov churches. An original belfry with a roof of multi-colored tiles. On its front side, two angels are depicted from multi-colored majolica, holding the icon of the Savior - this is an interesting and typical painting. The temple itself is small. It has an iconostasis with ancient icons; a huge chandelier in the old style is placed in the middle of the church. The temple is so original, so unlike other churches, that, probably, will become one of the sights of Moscow. During the triumph of the Old Believers, the skiffs, beginning with the Moscow millionaires and ending with the poorest members of the community, were in headscarves (mostly whites) due to the fact that the woman's head should be covered in the church. "In the narthex of the temple, as well as in the choirs, there were many fashionable and expensive ladies' hats, which were replaced by modest philistines scarves”. [3]
According to the data of S.T. Zhukov, the temple was founded on May 20, 1907 . Consecrated on June 8, 1908 . Built at the expense of community members: Morozov, Polyakov, Gorbunov, Zimin, Anufriev, E. V. Kokoreva and others. Until 1908, the rector of the church was Nikita Semenovich Shpuntov, after - Feofan Fedorovich Rumyantsev, and since 1911 - Mikhail Ivanovich Krestyanyanov. In 1917, a mentor about. Pavel Bukin. The chairman of the community council is Vasily Alexandrovich Gorbunov, since 1908 - Ivan Ivanovich Anufriev.
“ On May 1, 1909, meetings of the First All-Russian Congress of Pomors, accepting marriage, opened in this church. 500 people gathered at the congress. Before the meeting, a prayer service was served, the rector of the temple said a prayer for the king. Representatives of the Fedoseyevites appeared at the cathedral with a greeting. ” [4] Singing in this temple is “adverbial”. [5] It is curious that the temple has an abside that emphasizes the traditional architectural forms of the Christian temple.
Temple Closing History
“The temple was closed by the Great Lent of 1930 . A special part of state funds was captured by bells, candlesticks, font, chandelier, furniture. Gokhran took silver robes and crosses. About 70 images of the XVI - XVIII centuries went to the warehouses of the museum fund. " [6]
The Old Believer community began to seek the allocation of premises for worship. And having proved its uniqueness that the second same New Pomor Old Believer community is not found throughout the USSR, the community achieved recognition by the authorities, but failed to return the temple. But it was officially proposed to the Tokmak Old Believer community to transport church property and icons (with the exception of a few ancient ones) to the front (eastern) part of the St. Nicholas church of the former St. Nicholas single-faith monastery , since formally for the authorities this part of the church, which was separated by a brick wall, was then empty. A few weeks later, the community settled in the eastern part of the St. Nicholas Church at the Preobrazhensky Cemetery , where it remains to this day. [7]
In 1931 - 1933, a children's theater was located in the church, then a library, and after it a factory. Since the 1960s , the church has occupied workshop No. 4 of the Cosmos garment factory. The building is in poor condition. The heads of the church and the bell tower were broken, the bell was removed from the latter, and the icon of the Savior was taken out of the hands of the angels. Two annexes were added to the western portal. Two angels from majolica on the pediment that year and more crumble. The building consisted of a list of newly discovered architectural monuments proposed for state protection and have been awaiting approval for more than one year. Meanwhile, the temple was increasingly declining.
In 1990, inside was the stamp-engraving workshop of the metallography and stamp-engraving factory of the Main Directorate for the production of school supplies, the Ministry of Local Industry of the RSFSR.
Temple Return History
July 30, 1992 by a decision of the Presidium of the Moscow City Council under No. 84, the temple was put on state guard.
After some time, the long-suffering church was transferred to the Pomeranian community .
As of 2009 , the restoration of the church is still ongoing, as it is carried out exclusively at the expense of the Pomor Old Believer community itself. But the bulk of the work has already been done: the iconostasis is almost completely restored, the flooring is laid. Facade work continues.
On Thursdays in the evening, Old Believers' services are held in three canons, and the service is regularly performed on holidays, and trebs are served.
