Orthodoxy in the Republic of Kosovo

Grachanitsa

Orthodoxy is one of the traditional religions of Kosovo. Earlier in the territory of Metohija , in the city of Pecs was the first residence of the Pechersky Patriarch . Now the whole territory of the region is located in the Rash-Prizren diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church . The exact number of Orthodox Christians in Kosovo, due to the unstable situation in the region, cannot be accurately calculated.

On the territory of Kosovo there are ancient Orthodox Serbian shrines, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List :

  • Monastery Gracanica
  • High Dečany Monastery
  • Monastery of the Pechsky Patriarchate
  • Church of the Virgin Mary Levishka
