In 2000, the model survived the restyling. In 2003, a new generation of A3 was released, but the production of the old model in Brazil continued until 2006.

The model was first introduced in 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show . Initially, only a 3-door hatchback was sold, in July 2004 a 5-door version (Sportback) appeared, and in 2008 - a convertible . Restyling took place in 2005, 2008 and 2010.

  Interior

The third generation of the model, in a three-door version, was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012 ^{[3] [4]} . The 5-door version was shown at the Paris Motor Show the same year; sales in Europe began in 2013. The sedan was shown at the New York Auto Show on March 26, 2013 ^[5] .

The model is built on the Volkswagen Group MQB platform , the third generation is also available as a five-door Sportback hatchback and a four-door sedan that directly competes with the Mercedes-Benz CLA .

The technical feature of the new generation A3 is an entertainment media system with handwriting recognition and adaptive cruise control . A MacPherson-type suspension is used in front, and a multi-link aluminum suspension ^[6] . Also on the model as an option, a proprietary quattro all-wheel drive is installed. For the Russian market, models are provided with increased ground clearance , which is 25 millimeters higher than the standard clearance of 140 mm. and equal to 165 mm. ^[7]

S3

On the third generation of the S3 series, a 2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine - TFSI with a capacity of 221 kW (300 hp ) is installed . New pistons , reinforced connecting rods and a new camshaft were installed in the engine. The cylinder head is made of a newer aluminum alloy, which gives the head higher strength and heat resistance. The engine produces 380 N · m of torque with an even shelf of torque, in the range from 1,800 to 5,500 rpm.

The engine weighs 148 kg , which is 5 kg lighter than in the previous generation. The S3 2.0 TFSI engine can accelerate to 100 km / h in 5.4 seconds with a manual transmission (5.1 seconds with the S Tronic robot).

After restyling in 2016, the engine began to develop 310 hp. and 400 Nm ^[8] .

A3 Sportback

The third generation has an increased wheelbase of 50 mm and a 40 mm wider front track than on the previous model. Another feature is the choice of body colors, 13 body painting options are provided (three in solid color, eight in metallic and two in pearl effect), an additional package of options, gloss is added around the windows. A six -speed manual gearbox (optional S-Tronic robot) is installed on all engine models, depending on the configuration, the following are installed: 16 or 17-inch wheels (optional 18-inch wheels), Audi Drive Select system (standard in the Ambition package) , and an additional electromagnetic control system for the damper .

g-tron

This is a version of the A3 Sportback with a 1.4 TFSI ( 110hp ) natural gas engine or Audi e-gas synthetic methane . The gas tank is made of gas-tight polyamide polymer, carbon fiber reinforced polymer and fiberglass-reinforced polymer. Synthetic methane is produced from waste by the Werlte biogas plant, operated by the energy grid company EWE (German) . ^[9]

The start of mass production is scheduled for the end of 2013 ^[10] .

e-tron

The model is a hybrid concept car , presented in 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show ^[11] . In May 2013, Audi confirmed its decision to start production of a hybrid version of the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron , the start of retail sales will begin at the end of 2013 in Europe, in mid-2014 - in the USA and the UK ^{[12] [13]} .

The model is equipped with a 1.4 liter L TFSI gasoline engine, providing 148 hp. and 184 Nm of torque, combined with 101 hp electric motor , which is integrated in a six-speed automatic transmission with double clutch, the total power of the car - 201 hp and 243 Nm of torque. The car is equipped with a lithium-ion battery set, with a capacity of 8.8 kWh , an electric range of 50 km according to the NEDC standard. From a household outlet, the batteries will fully charge in four hours, and at special stations in two ^[14] . The maximum speed of the hybrid is 220 km / h , the car accelerates to 100 km / h in 7.6 seconds. According to Audi estimates, CO2 emissions will be 35 g / km ^{[12] [13]} .

In September 2013, Audi announced the start date of sales at the Frankfurt Motor Show - the car will be available in Europe in spring 2014 at a price of € 37,000 ^[15] . In the Russian market, prices start at 850,000 rubles ^[14] .

Restyling

In the spring of 2016, the entire Audi A3 family underwent modernization ^[16] : an updated appearance, a revised engine line, richer equipment and modern technology.
