The origins of Mindel are in the Allgäu region (southwestern Bavaria) west of Kaufbeuren , then the river flows predominantly northward, after which the river flows into the Danube on the territory of Gundremmingen .
The river gave the name to the Early Pleistocene Aldeen glaciation of the Alps and the interglacial periods of Gunz-Mindel and Mindel-Riess.
