White cryptocaria ( lat. Cryptocarya alba ) is a plant of the Laurel family, a species of the Cryptocaria genus.

It grows in deep gorges and in humid areas of the shady slopes of the mountains of Central Chile , at heights of up to 500-2000 m above sea level, between 32 and 40 degrees south latitude. In these areas, the period of drought lasts up to seven months a year.

It is an evergreen tree up to 20 m tall and up to 1 m in diameter with crumbling gray bark. The leaves are leathery, covered with a thick cuticle, slightly wavy 2.5-8.5 cm long, simple, with an opposite leaf arrangement and a characteristic aroma.
