Title

The ancient name of the alley comes from the Kazennaya Sloboda, inhabited by palace artisans, located here in the XVI-XVII centuries. In 1959-1993, the lane was named after the biologist Ilya Mechnikov , then his historical name was returned to him.

  monument of architecture (federal) . The manor complex [* 1] was built at the turn of the 18th-19th centuries by an unknown architect of the Kazakov school for Count V. S. Naryshkin . At the beginning of the XIX century, the estate belonged to a military engineer, Major General Pyotr Ivashev , father of the Decembrist Vasily Ivashev .

The private Orthopedic Institute of Mondelini has been operating here since 1830, in 1844 the Police (Gaaz) hospital with 150 beds was established in the main manor house, which was created on the initiative of Dr. Fedor Haaz for homeless people who got sick on the street. The hospital, among the Muscovites called “Haazovskaya”, was later renamed “Alexandrovskaya”, in honor of the Russian emperor.

In the fall of 1909, thanks to the chief physician Sergei Puchkov , who organized the collection of voluntary donations, a monument to its founder , the sculptor Nikolai Andreev , was installed in the front yard of the hospital - a bronze bust on a granite pedestal with the embossed motto of Dr. Haase “Hurry to do good” (fencing of the monument [* 2] made of granite hollows with symbolic bronze chains stretched between them was lost at the end of the 20th - beginning of the 21st centuries). Until 1917, at the monument for pupils of Moscow orphanages, the annual children's holiday “At the Good Grandfather of Haaza” was held [1] .

After 1917, the hospital was renamed “Krasnosovetskaya”, in 1920 the I. Mechnikov Institute of Infectious Diseases was briefly housed in the buildings, from 1924 to 1959 the Institute of Occupational Health and Occupational Diseases was located here, after 1959 - the Research Institute of Hygiene and Disease Prevention among children and adolescents.
