Google Web Server (GWS) is a proprietary web server used by Google to organize its web infrastructure and provide search services [4] . Not available for use outside the corporation. At one time it was believed that it was developed on the basis of Apache , but this was refuted by an employee of the corporation , i.e. gws is a standalone development [4] . The leader of the GWS team for 2008 was Bharat Mediratta [2] [5] .

GWS is a node coordinating the execution of a search query from a user, interacting with internal servers (for example, advertising, spelling server, caching, document and index servers [6] ) and generating a response page in the form of HTML [7] .
As of 2009, the source code for GWS was never published, and its methods were not described in patents. According to some estimates, GWS is one of the most protected and important components of the Google infrastructure [8] .
In certain time periods, in particular in 2010, the share of GWS was estimated at 13% of all active websites [9] . As of March 2018, it is on the 5th place by the rating of Netcraft with a share of about 7% of the total number of active sites [10] . In most cases, the HTTP headers from Google pages in the field about the software used contain the indication "gws" without a version number.
