The lake appeared about 18,000 - 20,000 years ago as a result of the glacier melt . The area of the lake is about 47 km², which makes it the 6th largest lake in Germany. Located at an altitude of 520 meters above sea level , the average depth is about 38 meters, the largest - 81 meters. The lake and its surroundings are a famous resort.
