(61) Danae ( lat. Danae ) - an asteroid of the main belt , which belongs to the bright spectral class S. It was discovered on September 9, 1860 by the German astronomer German Goldschmidt using a 4-inch telescope located on the sixth floor of his apartment in the Latin Quarter of Paris , and named after Danai , mother of Perseus in Greek mythology [2] .

In 1985, based on data obtained from the planet’s light curve , a group of Italian astronomers suggested it had a satellite. According to initial calculations, its dimensions were to be 85 × 80 × 75 km. But it was experimentally established that its dimensions are 55 x 30 x 30 km, and the density is close to the Danai density. Its orbit is located 101 km from the asteroid [3] .
The average acceleration of gravity at the Danube equator is estimated at 1.26 cm / sec² , that is, gravity here is 776 times weaker than on Earth.
Danae is one of the last asteroids, in the official name of which diacritics are used , which were assigned only to planets and the very first asteroids, while astronomers still had no idea about the actual number of asteroids between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. In astrology, the meaning of an asteroid symbol is such concepts as imprisonment , coin . This sign symbolizes the confinement of nature, communication with the higher, penetration through barriers.
