Port 777 is a well-known brand of ordinary (unsustainable, and therefore relatively inexpensive) fortified wine , usually obtained in a surrogate manner. It was produced in the USSR , and now - in the countries of the former USSR. The people call it "Three Sevens", "Hatchets", "Three Axes", "Point" (in the same game of cards the sum of three sevens is 21, this number is called a point). Despite the name, it is not port .
Properties
The strength of wine is 17-19%, sugar / - from 5 to 10% by volume. Most often, port 777 is white , however, there are both red and pink port. At the time of perestroika, he was a typical representative of a chat room , and was popular because of both its strength and low cost.
Currently, cheap fortified wines are produced under this brand. Most often, they are made from cheap wine materials with subsequent “porting”, which consists in heating the resulting surrogate to a certain temperature (usually 65–70 ° C) under conditions of intensive contact of wine materials with oxygen, and oxidation-reduction processes, melanoidin-forming reactions, esterification , dehydration , deamination , decarboxylation and other chemical reactions.
Currently, a drink sold under this name is made from fruit and berry raw materials and is classified by EGAIS as a “Wine drink made without the addition of ethyl alcohol”, while, for example, vermouth martini is a “Wine drink made with the addition of ethyl alcohol”.
