(59) Elpida ( lat.Elpis ) - an asteroid of the main belt , belonging to the spectral class B. It was discovered on September 12, 1860 by the French astronomer Jean Chacornac at the Paris Observatory and is named after the ancient Greek goddess of hope [2] .
