Career

He began to ride in tandem with Marina Petrova, one of the first major competitions was the Winter Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR 1978 in Sverdlovsk , where they took 11th place among juniors [2] . For most of his sports career, he worked with coach Igor Moskvin , who immediately took the pair to the most difficult level, including a set of jumps that were unprecedented for that time (triple sheepskin coat , double axel , cascade double axel - double sheepskin coat in one program), as well as the combination of double ejection axel - three - jump double axel. In addition, the pair for the first time in the world in four different programs showed the four most complex outbursts - triple rittberger , salchow , sheepskin coat, as well as an axel in two and a half turns. I. B. Moskvin tried to make programs interesting in terms of artistic idea, music and choreography. All this allowed the couple from the first season in the USSR team to immediately win bronze at the Olympic Games (1984).

The conflict between Oleg Makarov and Oleg Vasiliev was known. In training, the athletes collided, a fight ensued, and Makarov broke Vasiliev’s jaw. As a result, the Seleznev – Makarov pair was disqualified and missed almost all of 1983 [3] .

Personal life

Married to his former partner, Larisa Selezneva. Their daughter, Ksenia Makarova, is the 2010 Russian champion in women's singles . Oleg Makarov and his wife are the daughter’s trainers [4] .
