Story
The tale tells how a crocodile swallowed the sun once out of harm. Everything around was plunged into darkness. The animals began to think about how to return the sun, but this turned out to be a difficult task, because the animals were very afraid of the crocodile. To save the sun, the animals called the bear:
The bear came quietly,
Tolkanul lightly:
I tell you, villain
Spit out the sun soon!
And not that, look, I’ll catch
I'll break it in half, -
Will you ignorant know
Our sun is stealing!
Literature Analysis
Structurally, the fairy tale resembles another famous work of the writer, “ Cockroach ” - the same imbalance of the familiar world with evil forces, fear of the enemy, the appearance of a defender, the destruction of the enemy [2] . In both tales, evil is phantom: if in “ Tarakanishche ” the main villain is actually small and weak, then in “The Stolen Sun” the actual theft of the sun by an intruder is called into question in the first lines of the work: “The sun was walking in the sky / And it ran over the cloud” ( hence the commotion) [2] . The possible non-involvement of the Crocodile, however, does not save him from punishment: “He crumpled it / And broke it: /“ Give me here / Our sun! ”.” The problem of the mirage of evil in the context of the mid-1930s can be considered a hint of the historical situation in the country [2] .
