Athens Tram is a type of Athens city public transport. The modern system was opened in 2004. The system operator was ΤΡΑΜ Α.Ε. (Tram SA). In June 2011, the merger of Η.Σ.Α.Π. , Α.Μ.Ε.Λ. and ΤΡΑΜ Α.Ε. with the formation of the company Σταθερές Συγκοινωνίες Α.Ε. (ΣΤΑ.ΣΥ Α.Ε. , Urban Rail Transport SA, STASY SA ), Οργανισμός Αστικών Συγκοινωνιών Αθηνών (Ο.Α.Σ.Α. Α.Ε. , Athens Urban Transport Organization) SA ) [1] .

At the moment, the tram system consists of 3 lines with a total length of 27 kilometers and including 48 stops:
1) Syntagma Voula
2) Syntagma-Neo Faliro (SEF)
3) Neo Faliro (SEF) -Vula
The history of the Athenian tram begins in 1882, when horse-drawn horses ran around the city. In 1908 they switched to electric traction, which operated until 1960 in the central part of the city, and in 1977 the last Perama-Piraeus line was closed.
During the period of maximum development, the tram system totaled 21 lines:

At the moment, there are plans to build new tram lines. First of all, the extension of the line to Piraeus, and then to Perama. The possibility of building a tram line from Syntagma to Ano Patisia and to Zographos is also being considered .
According to the plans of the Athens City Transport Authority, by 2018, the city's tram network should expand to 50 kilometers and reach 200 thousand people daily (now 65 thousand), and the number of cars to increase to 100.
