La Santicima-Trinidad de Parana Jesuit Mission - the missionary center of the Jesuit monastic order in Paraguay , a historical monument, included in 1993 with the Jesuit mission Jesus de Tavarangue on the UNESCO World Heritage List . This mission was one of the most important centers of Jesuit missionary activity in Latin America during the 17th century. The missions were founded as small independent settlements for the conversion of South American Indians to Catholicism . La Santisima Trinidad de Parana mission was founded in 1706 and was one of the last missions built in the Parana River region in the 18th century. After the expulsion of the Jesuits from Latin America in 1768, the mission fell into decay.
