"Union" - a deputy group of the Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR , advocating the preservation of the USSR as a federal state. It was later transformed into the political union of the same name.
In February 1990, Yuri Blokhin , Viktor Alksnis , Georgy Komarov, Anatoly Chekhoev were elected co-chairs of the group. At the IV Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR in December 1990, 561 people were registered in the Soyuz group. In March 1991, more than 700 deputies joined the group at the Fifth Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR.
In December 1990, the group was transformed into the All-Union Association of People's Deputies. The constituent congress on December 1-2, 1990, was attended by 354 people's deputies from 13 union republics, including 175 USSR people's deputies. At the II Congress (April 20-21, 1991), the association was renamed the All-Union Union movement. Yuri Blokhin was elected Chairman.
