Biography

Early became interested in painting and cinema. In his youth, he was greatly impressed by the book of film critic Manny Farber Negative Space ( 1971 ). He studied art history at Harvard , dropped out of school and came to New York to study cinema. He started as a screenwriter, worked as a cameraman, collaborated with David Lynch , Tim Burton , Wim Wenders , Olivier Assayas .

Creativity

Films both documentaries and feature films. Often uses the black and white digital video camera PXL-2000, creating in his tapes a special space of another world - dreams, dreams, memories.

  • 1985 : A Hero of Our Time (based on Lermontov’s novel, short, with Dennis Hopper )
  • 1990 : Twister / Twister (with Harry Stanton , William Burroughs appears in the cameo ; nomination for the Independent Spirit Film Festival nomination for directorial debut in feature films)
  • 1992 : Another Girl, Another World , Another Planet (special mention of the National Society of Film Critics of the USA)
  • 1994 : Nadia / (in one of the episodic roles in the film, David Lynch appears; award to the best director at the IFF in Sitges , nomination for the IFF Independent spirit to best director, nomination for the Great Jury award at the IFF Sundance )
  • 1997 : The Rocking Horse Winner (short story by D. G. Lawrence )
  • 1998 : Trans / Trance (a remake of the film by Carl Freund Mummy , featuring Christopher Walken , nomination for the best film of the IFF in Sitges)
  • 2000 : Hamlet / Hamlet (in the title role - Ethan Hawke , in the role of Claudius - Kyle McLachlan , Polonius - Bill Murray ; nomination for the ICF Golden Leopard in Locarno )
