Geography

Hankavan village is included in the administrative district of Hrazdan and is located at a distance of 40 km from the district center of the city of Hrazdan.

The rich surrounding vegetation, with lush greenery, flowers and many beautiful ravines and gorges, surrounded by dense dense forests, gives these places delightful beauty. The presence of numerous sources of sweetish taste and mineral waters, gushing sources of thermal mineral waters and local landscape and climatic factors create all the necessary prerequisites for the construction and development of a first-class climatic and balneo-drinking health resort. Considering all this, it was decided to turn the 25 km long Marmarik valley into a spacious recreational zone in the near future.

Climate

The surrounding climate of the village of Ankavan is moderately humid, the summers are cool, and the winters are moderately cold. The annual amount of precipitation reaches 600-700 mm, the duration of sunshine 2400-2500 hours. The average annual amplitude of air temperature reaches 20-22 ° C. Winters are mild, very snowy (the maximum thickness of the snow layer reaches 150 cm), long but windless. Snow begins to fall in November, but a stable snow cover settles in December. Melting of snow begins in March, and since that time the average daily temperature rises to 0 ° C. In the late spring and early summer torrential rains occur, the transition from spring to summer occurs unnoticed, from the second half of June.

Summer has a relatively high humidity. The average temperature in August is 16-18 ° C (the maximum temperature is 22 ° C). At the end of the first half of September, the first frosts are observed, and from this period autumn comes. In the second half of autumn the number of rainy and cloudy days increases. On two sides of a mountain river, on a plot starting from the village of Meghradzor to Hankavan, large sanatorium complexes built in a modern style will rush upwards, where thousands of workers and schoolchildren will be treated. The reconstruction of buildings in the valley as sanatorium buildings has already begun. In addition to medical facilities in the sanatorium area there are cultural and everyday objects, a school, a kindergarten, a cinema. An artificial lake with a spacious beach, cafes and sports facilities gives a special beauty to the wellness area.

According to the data of academician K.N. Pafengolts, from a geological point of view, the Hankavan mineral springs belong to the northeastern branch of the Mishan-Arzakan anticline. They consist of the Cambrian and Precambrian metamorphic stratified mountain ranges. The specified layer is permeated with Paleozoic granites, the permeability of which served as the basis for the emergence of metamorphic layered mountains.

Modern aluive sedimentary layers of mineral sources (travertines and aragotina) are developed along both banks of the Marmarik River.

Due to the active tectonic movement in the higher tertiary period, the Mishanai Fault was formed and a number of additional faults, to which the outcomes of mineral sources are attributed. All large and small faults coincide with the mouth of the Marmarik River. The area is rich in not only mineral sources, but also sweetish waters. The sweet waters of this region are characterized by insignificant hardness, low mineralization (up to 200 milligrams per liter) and low temperature (10 ° C). Unfortunately, the water reserves of sweetish water sources are small. The mineral springs of the Hankavan district are geographically and partly divided into two groups according to their physicochemical properties: the Hankawan and Marmarik.

Hankawan mineral springs come to the surface of the earth near the village of Hankavan. There are 9 self-erupting outlets of mineral sources, the total water volume of which is 45,500 liters per day.

The Marmarik group of mineral springs reaches the surface of the earth at a distance of half a kilometer from the village of Hankavan, downstream of the Marmarika approximately at a distance of approximately one kilometer.

Due to 19 excavations at the source of these springs, most of the natural outcomes dried up.

Currently, three main sources are erupted (No. 4, No. 14, No. 17), the total water volume of which exceeds 2 million liters per day, which can meet all future needs of the sanatorium, as well as its bottling.

Ankavan mineral waters are thermal, tasty, colorless, transparent, devoid of extraneous odors and tastes. The waters of these mineral sources belong to the group of waters with moderate mineralization. Their total mineralization is 6.3 g / l. According to their chemical composition, they are carbonic, bicarbonate-chloride-sodium-calcium-magnesium water, with a significant content of iron (15-25 mg / l in the form of double-valued iron). Mineral water also contains a certain amount of trace elements: strontium, lithium, fluorine, copper, manganese, molybdenum, iodine, bromine, etc., which significantly increase the healing properties of water. Mineral springs of Hankavan, leaving the surface of the earth, due to altered thermodynamic conditions in the source area, leave a sediment. For this reason, before bottling the water used for the purposes of local bottling, water from the source No. 4 is subjected to sedimentation. Due to precipitation, water loses a certain amount of its components, in particular, iron salts and partially hydrocarbonate, calcium and magnesium. However, this prevents further formation of sediment in the bottle, which is very bad for its quality. After such pre-settling, the water remains mostly clear and pleasant to drink.

HEALING FACTORS The main healing factors of the health zone of Hankavan are the following: thermal mineral waters, which are used for indoor and outdoor use and the special climatic conditions of high-mountainous areas. The chemical composition of the Hankavan mineral waters is carbonated, hydrocarbonate-sodium chloride, calcium-magnesium water, with a high content of two-digit iron. Their temperature reaches 42.6 ° C.

Hankavan mineral waters are also rich in numerous trace elements, which undoubtedly significantly increases their therapeutic effect. In its chemical composition, the Hankavan mineral waters are similar to the famous Essentuki waters, from which, however, they differ in a rather high quantitative content of iron and trace elements and high temperature. These features significantly increase the therapeutic value of the Ankavan mineral waters. The second important therapeutic factor is the favorable climatic conditions, with inherent highland landscape landscape beauties. The combination of therapeutic thermal mineral waters with peculiar climatic conditions is an undoubted prerequisite for the development of a future first-class climatic and balneological-drinking sanatorium in the future. Sanatorium-resort enterprises have not yet been created in Hankavan: The firstborn is a sanatorium of the 4th administration of the Ministry of Health of the Armenian SSR, which doubled the number of beds in 1966, bringing them to 100. The sanatorium is equipped with first-class medical devices and has all the necessary facilities for organizing treatment and recreation, as well as its balneological department. Since 1950, the bottling plant of mineral water. Thanks to the measures planned and undertaken, Hankavan will in the near future become the best health center, where patients suffering from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, gall bladder, and biliary tract will receive effective treatment. Over the past ten years, the staff of the research institute for treatment with resort and physical methods has been systematically studying the resort values of Hankavan.
