Khoriv ( dr. Rus. Khoriv ) - according to the Tale of Bygone Years , the name of one of the legendary brothers who founded Kiev [1] :
And there were three brothers: one by the name of Ky , the other by Cheek, and the third by Horeb, and their sister Lybed . Kyi was sitting on the mountain, where Borichev is now lifting, and Cheek was sitting on the mountain, which is now called Shchekovitsa, and Horeb on the third mountain, which was nicknamed by his Horivice . And they built a city in honor of their eldest brother, and called it Kiev.
According to Max Vasmer [2] and A. I. Sobolevsky , the Old Russian proper name Horeb [3] is derived from the name Horivitsa (Horevitsa [3] , Horeb [4] ) - mountains near Kiev. The name "Horivitsa" is identical to the ancient Persian Haraiva (the name of a mountainous area) and, apparently, comes from some Iranian language [5] .
