PB (gun)

Silent PB gun ( GRAU 6P9 index ) was created for armament of army intelligence groups, as well as personnel of the KGB of the USSR , adopted for service in 1967 . There is a strong opinion that the PB was made on the basis of the Makarov pistol , but this is not so, although when it was created it was actually ordered to use the trigger mechanism as the most fragile part and the PM store.

Design

PB (index 6P9), equipped with an integrated and removable silencer , was created by A. A. Deryagin at the Central Research Institute of Tochmash. PB is an independent system due to numerous changes and revisions of weapon mechanisms compared to PM. Since the shutter-casing is greatly shortened, the return spring is placed vertically in the handle, interacting through the swinging two-arm lever with the shutter-casing.

Unlike most similar systems, the shot silencer is made collapsible in two parts. This solution allows you to carry and store the gun with the front silencer removed (nozzle), and before use, quickly install the nozzle on the weapon. At the same time, the gun retains the possibility of firing safely for the shooter with the nozzle removed, which is important in critical situations. Naturally, with the nozzle removed, the sound of the shot is close in volume to the sound of the shot of a regular PM pistol. However, even with the nozzle installed, the gun does not become completely silent, as the arrow issues a shutter clang. The initial velocity of the bullet is 290 m / s, i.e. lower than the speed of sound, as a result of which the bullet does not create a shock wave. The sound of a shot is heard approximately in a radius of 50 meters, which corresponds to the range of its effective use. The removed nozzle is carried in a special compartment in the holster designed for the PB pistol.

Automation works according to the scheme of using recoil with a free shutter. Trigger trigger type, double action with automatic setting of the trigger on the safety cock. On the left side of the shutter-casing there is a lever of the safety lock when you turn on the trigger safely. Due to the fact that the front of the barrel is closed by a silencer, the bolt has a small length, which does not allow placing a return spring inside it. Therefore, the return spring is located in the handle, under its right cheek, and acts on the bolt through a long swinging lever. A magazine latch is located on the bottom surface of the handle.

Behind the base of the trigger guard, on the left side of the frame, is a latch for the handle cheeks. This is a very non-standard solution, especially considering that, in place of this button, the magazine latch is mainly placed. Sights are fixed, unregulated. The gun uses full-time magazines from PM for 8 rounds [1] .

Usage

Despite the massive silencer, the PB has a good balance. The gun is characterized by great service strength and durability. There are known instances with a shot that is several times higher than the warranty, but without serious defects.

Currently, the PB continues to be in service with the FSB special forces and internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation , but is gradually being replaced by a PSS pistol. However, since 2017, the PB pistol has again become the weapon of all officers of the intelligence units and special forces (SPN).

Since the silent pistol of the PB was partially unified with the Makarov pistol, the production of the model was organized at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, where it was produced in relatively large batches until 1989, when it was replaced by the new VSS pistol. Nevertheless, due to the shortage of new pistols, especially special ammunition for them, a deficit of silent weapons arose in special units, so in 2003 the production of the PB pistol in Izhevsk was resumed and continues to this day.

According to Oleg Alkaev , the former head of the pre-trial detention center No. 1 of Minsk, during his service, this particular gun was used to carry out the court's sentences to death by execution [2] .
