Elections of the mayor of Moscow in 1999 - elections held on December 19, 1999 in the city of Moscow . According to their results, in the first round with 69.2% of the vote, the tandem of Yuri Luzhkov (for mayor) and Valery Shantsev (for vice-mayor) won.

Conduct
In June 1999, the Moscow City Council shortened the term of office of the mayor and vice mayor of Moscow, elected on June 16, 1996, for a four-year term until June 16, 2000 . According to the legislation existing at that time, the date of the election of the mayor and vice-mayor of Moscow was to be announced no later than 90 days before the election date ( September 19, 1999) and agreed with the current mayor. The current mayor, Yuri Luzhkov, confirmed in writing his agreement to call the elections for December 19.
On July 7, 1999, the Moscow City Duma adopted the Law of Moscow No. 22 "On the election of deputies of the Moscow City Duma, the Mayor and Vice Mayor of Moscow and advisers to the district Assembly in Moscow", which established the legislative framework for the upcoming elections [1] .
On September 17, 1999, the current mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov, officially announced his intention to run for mayor, calling him Valery Shantsev [2] as his candidate for vice-mayor. Opposition forces to Luzhkov in the Kremlin and the right, represented by the Union of Right Forces , put forward an alternative to Luzhkov, a candidate in the person of former Prime Minister of Russia Sergei Kiriyenko [3] .
On November 19, the final list of mayoral candidates was approved, which included pensioner Vladimir Voronin, human rights activist from Kazan Dmitry Berdnikov, former Prime Minister of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko, acting mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov, managing director of the President of Russia Pavel Borodin , State Duma deputy from the LDPR Alexei Mitrofanov , State Duma deputy Vladimir Semago , entrepreneur Evgeny Martynov, deputy chairman of the Moscow Healthcare Committee Ivan Leshkevich, chairman of the public movement “N national-patriotic front “Memory” ” Dmitry Vasilyev and director of the trading company Vladimir Kiselev [4] .
During the election campaign, Vladimir Semago (in favor of Yuri Luzhkov) and Ivan Leshkevich withdrew their candidacies [5] . Dmitry Berdnikov is unregistered due to the partner of the candidate for vice mayor [6] .
The first round of elections took place on December 19, 1999. Voter turnout was 66% [7] .
