" Chess Tournament at the Court of the King of Spain " (picture by Luigi Mussini , 1883)
Madrid tournament 1575 - code name for a series of games held in 1575 at the court of the Spanish king Philip II ; considered the first international competition in the history of chess, in which J. Leonardo and P. Fights played (at different times) games against R. Lopez and Spanish chess player Alfonso Seron and won against them.
The tournament was captured in the painting by the Italian artist-academic and chess composer Luigi Mussini "Chess tournament at the court of the king of Spain" (1883).
