Description
The hat reaches 5–11 cm in diameter, finely fleshy, first convex, then flattened and flattened-depressed, with a furrowed edge. The peel is removed during most of the hat, in wet weather it is sticky, painted in dark purple or brick red, then paler.
Lamellae are quite frequent, often branching near the stalk, grown, white, then light cream.
The peduncle is usually cylindrical or spindle-shaped, soon spongy and hollow, white, with severe yellowish damage.
The flesh is very brittle, white, very yellowing in the air, without any particular smell, it tastes sweetish.
Cream-colored spore powder . Spores 6.5-9 × 5.5-7 microns, ovoid, warty, with poorly developed mesh. Pileocystids are mainly club-shaped.

- Russula elegans Bres. , 1882 grows under poplar, turns yellow weakly.
- Russula nitida ( Pers. ) Fr., 1838 grows under a birch, almost does not turn yellow when damaged, is well defined by a noticeably radially furrowed edge.
- Russula odorata Romagn. , 1950 grows in oak forests of the Mediterranean, more fleshy, with a strong fruity smell.
- Russula puellula Ebbesen , FHMøller & Jul.Schäff. , 1937 grows under a beech, does not turn yellow.
- Russula versicolor Jul.Schäff., 1931 - the closest species, also yellowing when damaged, growing under birch and alder.
Ecology
The species is widespread throughout Eurasia, forms mycorrhiza with both coniferous and deciduous trees, is common and most often found under spruce, also under pine, fir, beech and oak.
