Chapar ( azerb. Çapar , arm. Չափար ) is a village in Nagorno-Karabakh at an altitude of 1037 meters [4] . According to the administrative-territorial division of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic , which actually controls the settlement, it is located in the Martakert region of NKR , according to the administrative-territorial division of Azerbaijan - in the Kelbajar region of Azerbaijan .

Etymology
Translated from Persian, the word " chapar" means an entrench braided shield [6] . The Armenian meaning of the word is a fence [7] [8] .
History
On September 23, 1990, Azerbaijani OMON units stormed the village of Chapar in the Martakert region. During the attack, in addition to small arms, mortars and grenade launchers were used, as well as helicopters from which hand grenades were dropped. As a result of the assault, 6 Armenians died. [9]
Exactly one year after that, on September 23, 1991 , despite the freshly signed Zheleznovodsk communiqué, Azerbaijani riot police, as Izvestia journalist Andrei Nuikin described these events, “killed six residents of the village of Chapar. And among them - 12-year-old Vakhtang Sargsyan, who stoned to death with stones, they also cut off their ears. " [ten]
