Since 1973, the Fernandez family lived in Panama, where Idania studied at the University of Panama and subsequently underwent military training. In 1975-1978, she participated in clandestine operations in Nicaragua and Costa Rica on the side of the SFNO. In September 1978, she was wounded in the arm in battles on the southern front of the Sandinista resistance. Her candidacy was considered as a participant in the operation to seize the parliament building, but in the end, the only woman to take part in it was Dora Maria Telles . In March 1979 she returned to Nicaragua and was sent to the western front of the Rigoberto Lopez.
A few months before the victory of the revolution, on April 16, 1979, the command of the Western Front of the Sandinists, including the Nadia Fernandez, was destroyed by the National Guard. 80 guardsmen with tanks and armored vehicles with the help of a scammer found and surrounded the house where the Sandinists were. All the Sandinista men were ruthlessly killed on the spot, the women were detained, tortured and executed. Only Ana Isabelle Morales managed to escape, who escaped with a child in her arms. Since Edgar Lang-Sagasa was among the murdered revolutionaries, the offspring of an oligarchic family related to Somosa, the news quickly spread around the world’s news agencies.
