Yuri Yakovlevich Shoikhet (born April 5, 1950 [1] ) is a Russian businessman and politician.

In 1971 he graduated from the Stavropol Higher Air Force School. He served in the Air Force until 1987, after which he resigned. He was deputy chairman of the Omsk Regional Society of Hunters. From 1988 to 1991, he worked as a team leader, after which he briefly became chairman of the fishing cooperative Promysel. Since 1991, the head of JSC "Omsk". [2]

The term of Yu. Ya. Shoikhet as mayor came at a time of turbulent political events in the country. In addition, he became remarkable for the stark opposition of the city and region administration and grandiose new events. These factors depleted urban financial resources , which formally served as the reason for its removal. In fact, a good reason was the personal conflict between the mayor and governor Leonid Polezhaev . The latter’s visit to Moscow immediately preceded the presidential decree.
One of the undertakings of Yu. Ya. Shoikhet, which is still being held and enjoys great popularity among the townspeople, is the annual celebration of the City Days. During his reign, several early Siberian international marathons also took place [3] .
As mayor of Omsk, was replaced by Valery Roshchupkin . In 1995, he became a deputy of the City Council from Yabloko from 1995 - 2003. Chairman of the City Council. Membership in parties 1990-1994.
