Opening

It was discovered on November 23, 2000 by a group of astronomers from the University of Hawaii under the leadership of Scott Sheppard and received the provisional designation S / 2000 J 7 [1] [2] . In August 2003, the satellite got its name in honor of the Greek goddess of retaliation Praxidica [3] .

Orbit

Praxidike makes a complete revolution around Jupiter at an average distance of 21,147,000 km in 625 days and 7 hours. The orbit has an eccentricity of 0.230. The inclination of the retrograde orbit to the local Laplace plane is 149.0 °. Belongs to the Ananke group [4] [5] .

Physical Characteristics

The diameter of Praxidike is about 7 km. Density is estimated at 2.6 g / cm³. The satellite is supposedly composed mainly of silicate rocks. A very dark surface has an albedo of 0.04. The magnitude is 21.2 m .
