Opening
It was discovered on February 6, 2003 by a group of astronomers from the University of Hawaii under the leadership of Scott Sheppard and received the provisional designation S / 2003 J 21. In March 2005, the International Astronomical Union assigned the satellite the official name Mnemé, the name of one of the muses .
Orbit
Mnemé makes a complete revolution around Jupiter at an average distance of 21,069,000 km in 620 days and 58 minutes. The orbit has an eccentricity of 0.2273. The inclination of the retrograde orbit to the local Laplace plane is 148.6 °. Belongs to the Ananke group .
Physical Characteristics
Mnemé's diameter is about 2 km. Density is estimated at 2.6 g / cm³. The satellite is supposedly composed mainly of silicate rocks. A very dark surface has an albedo of 0.04. The magnitude is 23.3 m .
