History
The project of the Republican Sports Palace was developed by the authors of the Belgosproject Institute as part of the chief architect S. D. Filimonov, the architect V. N. Malyshev and the chief engineer of the project V. V. Korzhevsky. Construction was carried out from September 1963 to May 1966 . A feature of the project was the asymmetric arrangement of spectators in stationary stands and the stage on the opposite side of the sports ground. This solution, combined with the use of prefabricated stands in the stalls, made it possible to turn the arena into a concert hall . Externally, the Sports Palace resembles the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna built in 1958. The project in the USSR became standard and was also implemented in Chelyabinsk , Dnepropetrovsk , Volgograd . In 1984, the Sports Palace was included in the List of Monuments of History and Culture of the BSSR .
In the 1960s and 1980s, the largest republican competitions were held at the Sports Palace, as well as union championships and international tournaments in wrestling , fencing , boxing , weightlifting , sports and rhythmic gymnastics and other sports. The hockey club Dynamo and the handball SKA held their matches in the union championships. In addition, the largest concerts and republican party meetings were held at the Palace.
In the 1990s, the premises of the Palace were rented out, exhibition events were held in the arena, and there were practically no sports competitions. In 2001-2004 , a phased reconstruction of the Sports Palace was carried out: the facades of the building were updated, refrigeration, lighting and sound equipment were replaced, an air conditioning system was installed, seats for spectators were replaced, a new electronic information board was installed.
In February 2018, the director of the Sports Palace was detained on suspicion of committing corruption crimes. [1] In February 2019, the court began proceedings in the Pranovich case. He is accused of embezzlement by abuse of authority, large-scale fraud, receiving a large bribe, attempted bribe, incitement to give a bribe. [2]
