Biography

Anatoly Dnistrovy was born on July 30, 1974 in the city of Ternopol, Ukraine. The son of a poet and literary critic, professor, doctor of philological sciences Alexander Astafiev . Founder of the literary group Friends of Eliot (1993-1996). Member of the Ukrainian PEN Club.

He studied at Ternopil Secondary School No. 20. He graduated from the Ternopol Vocational School No. 2 (1991), the historical and philological faculty of the Nizhyn Pedagogical University named after Nikolai Gogol (1997), graduate school at the Department of Philosophy of Kiev National Agrarian University (2000). PhD in Philosophy (2001).

In different years he taught at the National Agrarian University (assistant of the Department of Philosophy, 1997-2000), Kiev National University. Tarasa Shevchenko (Guest Associate Professor, Institute of Philology, 2003). He worked at the National Institute for Strategic Studies (ethnopolitics department, deputy head, 2001-2005), in the magazine Ukrainian Tizhen (head of special projects, cultural editor, 2009—2011). Since 2011 - PR Director of the Grani-T Publishing House.

Anatoly Dnistrovy works on the verge of counterculture and urban prose with expressive social and psychological lines. One of the few Ukrainian writers who in his youth had “street experience”. Essayism is inherent in recent novels. Dnistrovy became known to the reader for his youth trilogy - the novels Slow Motion City (2003), Patsyki (2005), Tibet on the Eighth Floor (2005, publishing title - Pathetic Delusion).

The panoramic language amplitude of the novels (criminal argo, youth slang) was used in the preparation of Ukrainian linguistic dictionaries, for example, by a professor, doctor of philological sciences, Lesya Stavitskaya (“Short Dictionary of Slang vocabulary of Ukrainian language”, Kyiv: Criticism, 2003, “Ukrainian language without taboo: vocabulary of obscene vocabulary and ії відповідників ”(Kyiv: Criticism, 2008). Dnistrov’s novels became objects of scientific analysis and many dissertation research by literary critics, linguists, sociologists.

The novel “Patsyki” entered the top ten for the version of the Internet survey of the BBC Book of the Year and the “Book of the Year” in 2005.

The novel "Drosophila over Tom Kant" entered the top five for the version of the experts of the BBC Book of the Year 2010.

Other components of creativity are the poetic corpus (the most successful critics point out the verbal part, experiments with retro-urbanism and cultural memory) and a significant corpus of essay studies, the main lines of which are literary criticism and creative philosophy, political and philosophical texts on liberal democracy and nationalism in the post-communism era.

Dniester translates from German, Czech, Polish and Belarusian ( Georg Trakl , Josef Weingeber, Paul Celan , Gottfried Benn , Hergard Fritsch, Vitezslav Nezval , Ales Ryazanov ). Dnistrovsky's poetic works were translated into German, Armenian and Belarusian.

Dnistrov raises his daughter Martha Maria.

Creativity

Prose

The story of Anatoly Dnistrov “Unknown outside the window” (2001) is a short career story of the young journalist Mark Szeged, where unsuccessful love, moral decline and political corruption of the media in a provincial city are intertwined.

The novel "City of Slow Motion" (2003) is an urbanistic picture from the everyday life of modern adolescents who have taken the path of crime. The novel is written in harsh, low vocabulary in a manner of harsh prose.

The Western Ukrainian gangs of teenage gops (the city of Ternopil) in recent years of the USSR is the main theme of one of the best works of the writer “Patsyks” (2005). The vibrant slang Western Ukrainian language, a good knowledge of “pet stuff” and a thorough analysis of “heavy” teenagers form a retrospectively accurate picture of the time twenty years ago.

The novel “Tibet on the eighth floor” (2005, the publishing title is “Pathetic Misconception”) is about the last years of the Ukrainian “pre-electronic” era in the small town of Nizhyn. Hungry and happy students, sexually preoccupied part-time students, exhibitionists in the bushes near the university buildings, provincial crime bosses, as well as the amateur chatter of student friends about poetry, music and Tibet, is not the whole nightmare that the novel offers.

The novel "Drosophila over Tom Kant" (2010) is about the Ukrainian intellectual of the late 90s, who exists in an amorphous state, without having been born truly. Neither amorous adventures, nor intellectual experiences bring him closer to peace of mind. The author develops a classic plot of the conflict between the eternal and the momentary, and the metaphor of the intellectual “without soil” in his novel is the chaotic and unpredictable behavior of a small Drosophila fly, which lives for one day and eats products of decay and decay, like scientists - in the trash of other people's ideas. Criticism compares this Dnistrovsky novel with the tradition of Ukrainian prose writer-intellectuals of the 20s, Viktor Petrov and Valerian Pidmogilny.
