The Minjiang River flows in the central part of Sichuan . This is the deepest tributary of the Yangtze . The sources of the river are located on the southern slope of the Minshan Mountains in the territory of the Ngava-Tibet-Qiang Autonomous Okrug . The length of the river is 735 kilometers.
The river flows from north to south between the Qunlai Shan mountain ranges (in the west) and Minshan mountain (in the east). The Heishui , Tsagunao , Dadu and Mabian rivers flow into Minjiang. At the city of Yibin, it flows into the Yangtze , in its upper reaches.
Minjiang flows through Wenchuan County, where a large dam was built on the river, within the framework of the ancient Dujiangyan irrigation system, past the cities of Chengdu , Meishan and Leshan , feeds the fertile Chengdu valley in western Sichuan basin with water.
