Florida is best known as the author of the theory of the creative class. According to his research, the creative elite is a key factor in the successful economic development of cities and regions. Along with cultural development, one of the factors for the success of the regions of Florida also highlights the level of tolerance. He notes a direct correlation between the number of representatives of non-traditional sexual orientation , bohemians and immigrants on the one hand and creative personalities on the other. Florida explains this by the fact that an open and tolerant environment attracts creative people, where they are more free in their actions and self-expression. In his later work, he focused on issues related to innovation, including the continuous improvement of production by automotive corporations such as Toyota .
