Biography

Education

Andrei Yurievich graduated from high school in the city of Stavropol, after which he worked as a construction worker for a year [2] . Then he entered the history department of Leningrad State University . He specialized in the Department of History of the USSR (now - the history of Russia from ancient times to the 20th century).

During training I was engaged in a seminar of Professor Vladimir Vasilievich Mavrodin . The student’s supervisor was another major specialist in the history of Ancient Russia - Igor Yakovlevich Froyanov . In 1980 , after graduating from the faculty, Dvornichenko was enrolled in graduate school . In 1983, Andrei Yurievich prepared his dissertation “Urban community of the upper Dnieper and the Dvina in the 11th-15th centuries”. Opponents in defending the work were Leningrad historian Yuri Georgievich Alekseev (specialist in military history of Russia, Ancient Russia and the era of Ivan III ) and Moscow historian and archaeologist, specialist in Ancient Russia and Smolensk region Leonid Vasilievich Alekseev . The historian of St. Petersburg State University V. S. Brachev in his book about the department describes this event as follows:

The defense was hot. While one of the opponents, Yu. G. Alekseev, agreed with the conclusions and observations of the dissertation, the other opponent, the Moscow scientist L.V. Alekseev, opposed. In favor of a new conceptual approach were: V.V. Mavrodin, G.L. Kurbatov , A.L. Shapiro , V.M. Paneyakh . The Higher Attestation Commission recognized the defense as quite legitimate and approved the thesis in due time [1] .

Faculty work and research

In 1982, Dvornichenko became an assistant at the department. In 1988 , already being a candidate of sciences , he received the academic title of assistant professor . During the years of study and work, Andrei Yurievich was actively involved in social activities: he was the chairman of the student academic council, the chief of the civil defense headquarters at the faculty, he was the executive secretary, and then he was the chairman of the faculty admissions committee, deputy dean for correspondence and evening departments. For active assistance to the faculty, Dvornichenko was repeatedly awarded with prizes and diplomas [2] .

In the same 1988, in collaboration with I. Ya. Froyanov, Dvornichenko published the book Cities-States of Ancient Russia , which was the result of many years of work by scientists. The work was and is important for the development of the historiographical direction, devoted to the study of Ancient Russia. Historians investigated all the lands of the ancient Russian state, showing the formation in them of a special political unit - the city-state . The authors disproved the opinion of the economic insolvency of certain Russian lands; the book also clarified the nature of princely power during the collapse of Kievan Rus .

In parallel with the study of Russian history, Dvornichenko became interested in studying the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . Dvornichenko wrote the first articles on this topic as a graduate student, and in 1993 Dvornichenko 's monograph “Russian lands of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (before the beginning of the 16th century) was published . Essays on the history of the community, estates and statehood ” , which formed the basis of the doctoral dissertation of the scientist. This fundamental work was recognized by the Higher Attestation Commission as one of the three best dissertations in the humanities. The main purpose of the study was the testimony of the transition "from the city-state to the estate-aristocratic monarchy." A separate article is devoted to Andrei Yurievich Dvornichenko and his contribution to the study of Belarusian, Lithuanian and Ukrainian history in the Encyclopedia of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania [2] .

In addition, interest in the South-West direction aroused Dvornichenko's desire to study the History of Ukraine , Cossack history , historiography of Russian history. Dvornichenko is the author of several textbooks on the history of Russia.

In 1995, Dvornichenko was awarded the academic title of professor , and in 1998 he became the first head of the department of history to teach at the natural and humanitarian faculties (university department). A. Yu. Dvornichenko taught courses on the history of Ukraine and Russia, now teaches a course on historiography, also teaches special courses and conducts seminars.

In the same year, he became editor of the historical series “ Vestnik of St. Petersburg State University ”. Under him, a department of the history of Slavic and Balkan countries appeared at the faculty, and in 2003, he became head of the department of history of Russia from ancient times until the 20th century - the largest and one of the oldest at the history faculty. In 2006, Dvornichenko headed the editorial board of the Proceedings of the Department of Russian History from Ancient Times to the 20th Century.

The name of Dvornichenko is associated with the modernization of the faculty: 6 new departments appeared, including the history of the Slavic-Balkan countries, entrepreneurship and management, and others, 2 new specialties were opened - art and museology, 10 scientific centers appeared. The faculty remains one of the leaders in the field of historical and general humanitarian higher education in the Russian Federation . The faculty has a strong teaching staff.
