Gadas ( Latin Amphibia ) - according to the classifications of the XVIII – XIX centuries, the group that covered all terrestrial vertebrates , except for clearly defined groups of birds and mammals . In the system of animals, Carl Linnaeus is one of the six classes he singled out. Reptiles were divided into bare (correspond to amphibians ) and scaly (correspond to reptiles ). In a number of Systema naturae publications, Linney included sharks , chimeras and stingrays in this group, but this was not supported by his closest successors. By the end of the XIX century, the name of the bastard stuck to amphibians , but gradually emerged from scientific use.

In modern scientific literature is not used, but can be met in works of art. For example, in M. Bulgakov ’s novel “ Fatal Eggs ”, Professor Persikov asks the students with tricky questions about the characteristic features of the structure of “naked reptiles”:
In the 23rd year, Persikov already read eight times a week - three at the institute and five at the university, in the 24th year thirteen times a week and besides at working schools, and in the 25th, in the spring, he became famous for having cut seventy-six students and all naked reptiles:
- How do you not know the difference between naked reptiles from reptiles? Asked Persikov. - It's just ridiculous, young man. Pelvic kidneys do not have naked reptiles. They are missing. Tak-that. Shame on you. Are you probably a Marxist?
- Marxist, - fading away, answered slaughtered.
“So, please, in the fall,” Persikov said politely and shouted to Pankrat cheerfully: “Let's go next!”
